The British auto maker, Rover, has a two-seater convertible which is supposed to be competition for the Mazda Miata. In a recent published interview, the Chairman of Rover, Wolfgang Reitzle, (he came from BMW after BMW purchased Rover) stated how unimpressed he is with the MGF: "I was at Rover soon after we (BMW) purchased the company and they were anxious to show me a special project they were working on. It was the MGF. The first time I saw the car I knew we had a problem. It's not, in my opinion, a very good car and it's not what they should be spending their money on at the moment. My first reaction was to tell them to kill it." He further went on to explain that the car was produced in order to keep the workers at Rover happy. That sums up the difference between the Miata and the MGF: The Miata is built to make the customer happy; the MGF is built to make the Rover employees happy.
