G'day! It's another round of alarm debate, NOT! :) Seriously I'm going to install a Viper 500+ with dual stage radar sensor and trunk release with power door lock. I've been looking for an alarm best suitable for ragtops such as MX-5/Miata and finally choose the Viper 500+. I know Alpine makes one great alarm as well as Clifford but these two brands are not available in Australia at the moment. Alpine is still waiting for the Federal Government pending for its alarm series and Clifford is, last I heard, still restructuring its model range in Australia. :( For some reason, a lot of installers I've talked dropped the CodeAlarm from their inventories. I originally did have a look at the Viper 500+ alarm last year but someone advised me that Viper tends to have too many false alarm with its sensors so I dropped it from the list until I happened to drop by one of my local audio shop where I bought some gears before. They've started to carry Viper range and just finished the installation on shop owner's MX-5 - it's '95 red/tan special edition BTW. I was quite impressed. So I talked some and after lengthy discussion with a installer, I choose 500+. Originally he suggested 900 but since I wouldn't use many of its features and price wise, 500+ looked like good choice. This 500+ even has code hopping which was only available in 500HF last year. Now, should I get 900? It has things like dome light supervision, automatic wiper activation, Vehicle Recovery System, and etc. Do I need these things? Certainly it'll be cheaper to buy 900 than adding all these features to 500+ later. What do you think?
