Well, I went off and did the unthinkable.

No, I didn't sell my Miata...I took the first step towards creating
a miata-specific newsgroup.  It was going to happen sooner or later.

This is a general notice, just to let you know where you can get more
information on the Request For Discussion (RFD) which is used to
justify the creation of a newsgroup.  This RFD proposes to create:

    rec.autos.makers.mazda.miata newsgroup

Please note, this is just an announcement, I am not actually sending
the RFD and forcing everyone to read it.  Obviously, I would like to
have your support, so if you are interested, please read on. (Else
hit the DELETE key now)

(** too late, I was going to post this message (not the actual RFD),
when the RFD hit my newsserver. Well, it hasn't arrived here yet, 
but apparantly others have seen it already.  An actual copy of the 
RFD hit the mailing list while I was sleeping.  Please read it and 
show your support. Thanks **)

Basically, the RFD starts a thirty day discussion period.  After
thirty days, an official vote will be taken.  If it passes,
Miata owners will have an addition forum to "talk" about their
favorite car.  I am hoping everyone will at least review the RFD.
If you have any comments, please e-mail me or post it to news.groups.
The RFD gives all the detail, but basically I wanted to create this
newsgroup so more Miata owners will be able to find all of the great
Miata content that is already on the internet, much the same way the
Miata.net web site has done.  I am not trying to replace any forum.
The MCA magazine, Miata.net, the numerous Miata Chapters, and the
Miata Mailing List all co-exist together.  All I want to do is create
another venue to the "World of Miata" that we are already familiar with.

The RFD to create rec.autos.makers.mazda.miata is only a request to
create this newsgroup.  When the time to vote (approx. 30 days from
now) comes, it will be up to all Miata owners to decide whether the
newsgroup is welcome.  I hope you will show your support.  If you
know of anyone who would be interested in this, please pass it on. 

The official RFD was posted to: news.groups, news.announce.newgroups,
rec.autos.misc and rec.autos.driving.
