The Owners Manual and Shop Manual do indeed show a fuel filter change interval of 60,000 miles. If I lived in Arizona or Florida I'd change it every 30,000. I don't think the gasoline is as clean as Mazda thinks. I live in Colorado. I change my fuel filter every summer, approximately 15,000 miles. The concern here is frozen water where the filter is supposed to be. You used to be able to toss a bottle of Heet in once a month, but now there is already so much stuff in the gas that is not gas. I am afraid to put more anhydrous alcohol in there. If you have ever had to lie under a car at the side of the highway when it is -20 F and change a filter while gasoline trickles into your armpit, even the Miata filter looks cheap every summer.
