Regarding the "Great Drives" series on PBS, I haven't yet seen the segment on A1A but have enjoyed the previous segments for what they are--a look at the importance of car travel to the history of the U.S. I was alerted to the series by another list I'm on, the Roadside list which seems designed for shunpikers. The list is aimed at folks who who tend to take the "scenic route" vs. interstates, and members delight in roadside attractions (giant statues of fish, etc.) and small-town diners. Last week's segment featured Terri Garr in a new Mustang convertible traveling highway 101 from San Francisco to the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Another was on route 66. The people making the drives always seem to try to stop and talk to those along the way who remember hwo it was "in the good old days" (i.e., pre-Miata). Although the scenery along these drives is often nice, I find the personal interviews the most interesting part, FWIW. Tim Markus Red 90A Olympia, WA
