Joe, 
I'm looking a a copy of Bulletin No. 009/93.  It describes two possible
sources:
1) A crack in the exhaust manifold heat insulator or insulator brackets.
2) A crack in the rear weld near the front flange on the front pipe
insulator.

Pictures are included.

I seem to have this problem, too on my '90.  Gotta check it out!
