There are a couple of easy ways to drop weight if you're really deperate, and they don't involve a whole bunch of compromises, as a bastardized top would. -run with less than half a tank of gas all the time. I don't know what gas weighs, but 5 gallons of anything has to have some effect. -clean out your glove box. The owner's manual is worth a couple of pounds, never mind all the maps and junk that accumulates in there... -lose weight yourself. Just think, if you're overweight, losing those 30 lbs will improve both your performance and the car's. Not recomended if you're already fit. If that's the case - wear fewer clothes! -leave the passenger at home. What better way to lose 150 lbs? Heck, take their seat out. I do agree that the next Miata should stay away from "longer lower wider" disease, and get lighter - but not at the expense of common sense. My car already has the wind-up windows, by the way - no AC or airbag, either. If you want a light car, get a '90.
