After yesterday's outpouring of support for the upstart Z3.net, I called the offices of the BMW Owner's Group of the United States. Nurmann von Gougett, III, the publisher of the B.O.G.U.S. club magazine refused to speak to me or return my calls or email. I said to myself, "Hey, I don't need no steenking BMW to get that kind of treatment. I can get it from the Miata Club of America!" So I turned down the free BMW Z3 and decided to keep my good old 136,000 mile Miata! The responses that came in were great! About 90% of them were of the "You hoser" or "You lyin' Canadian" variety. Several folks were humble enough to admit that we had 'em going for awhile before they noticed the date. Tom Manson and Skip Cannon were just about to publicly hang me but managed to figure it out before hitting the SEND button. (Too bad, it would have been fun to receive hate mail for this.) But top awards go to: - One guy who was upset that he couldn't get to the miata.net web site and didn't understand why some BMW page kept coming up. He obviously hadn't seen the listserv and just stumbled onto Z3.net. - Another guy who was so excited that he had a new club to join and wanted me to "put him on my list." - A very sympathetic letter from a list regular asking what I intend to do with Miata.net and congratulating me on negotiating a great deal with BMW. This one was caught hook, line, and sinker. I don't want to mention any names, but if you ask Frank Potter, he'll know. ;-) - and the absolute *best* one was the phone call I received from my dealer friend Gar Web of Maple Shade Mazda in Maple Shade, NJ. Gar said a copy of the email message had just passed across his desk and he was *very* disappointed that this happened. He said that he had planned to escalate this to the head of Mazda North America and he wanted to know if I would consider staying with Miata.net. I thanked him and said it would be *great* if he would contact this guy. I asked him if he had noticed the date on his email. Then the brick hit him in the head. Gar made my day! Miata.net lives! For those who never checked out the Z3.net BOGUS web page, it can be found at http://www.miata.net/bogus. ...Gary -- ------------------------------------------------------ Gary Fischman -- Eunos Communications, Old Tappan, NJ http://www.miata.net/ gary@miata.net ------------------------------------------------------
