I'm with Gary on this one. Yes, the 890 people subscribed to the Miata list aren't that big a percentage of Miata owners. That's only those with the email accounts tough enough to handle the list traffic, though. There are a fair number who keep up through the archives and other means - I hear from them at times. Have a look at the use stats for Miata.net sometime, too. There are a lot of people coming through Miata.net that aren't on the list. Both Gary and I hear from them, answering questions and giving advice. More importantly, those who do follow both the list and the web site are often among the most knowledgable and consulted owners. I was on the Miata.net for over a year before I met up with my first club meeting, and I could not believe how much knowledge I had gained. I have helped two people buy brand new Miatas over the past 3 months, both of whom I met through the net. We on the Miata.net are usually the most enthusiastic and loyal of Mazda enthusiasts. By inviting Miata.net to a Miata unveiling, Mazda would have guaranteed itself a high-profile review on a site that receives almost 2000 visits per month. I'm sure they invided the major car magazines, who might put a small picture in the front of an issue, or even a paragraph in an associated story. I think Mazda screwed up by not inviting us - what sort of message does that send to the online community? Does anyone else remember the Speedster unveiling a couple of years ago? There was a lot more excitement here than I saw in the press. It took AutoWeek until this August to get something printed, didn't it? Keith Tanner See, not everything I do is a joke. _____________________ Page de Home: http://www.ottawa.net/~tanner Heavy Miata Content! Netscape 2.0 enhanced _____________________
