Someone here advised Scotchguard to solve this static thing. I have leather in my Miata and don't suffer from static problems.(end of miata content) However my new Windstar nearly electrocutes me every time I get out. I need not even start it. Last night I left the van with the door open to retrieve a package from a friend. Didn't touch the door didn't get a shock. Well she must have been building an opposite charge in her car because when our hands got about four inches apart we got a blast that lit the whole area. That was it! I drove directly to Wal Mart and bought "Scotchguard for Furniture" Applied it when I got home (read this I emptied the can on 7 seats which is 2.5 Miatae) and left it overnight to dry. Drove to work today, got out....no shock! Drove out to lunch....no shock! Came back to work...no shock! Could this be? To the person here who suggested this as a solution ---Thank You!--- I tried "Static Guard" when the van was new ..no good it didn't last more than a few hours and it stinks. I am going to assume that this is a more lasting solution. Funny 3M makes no claim on the can that this product will solve this problem. The marketing wizz people are missing something here. Regards Arch
