From: balf@golden.net (PETER & LYNN BALFOUR) Subject: Wife busted with retracting plate! Date: Tue, 2 Apr 1996 19:32:56 -0500
I can barely type this because I'm still laughing too hard. My wife Lynn just came home yelling at me because one of our trusty boys in blue just stopped here for no front plate. Many of you may remember that I came up with an idea to retract my front plate using a choke cable. Well my wife was'nt quick enough extending the plate. The cop stopped her and asked where her front plate was. She decided it probably was'nt wise to extend the plate and show the cop that, yes the plate is indeed there. No, I guess this guy had no sense of humor. The best part is Lynn had to resort to the "dumb woman" routine....which, if you knew Lynn, sort of goes against her grain. Here she was explaining to the officer, "gee....my husband works on my car for me, maybe he forgot to put the plate back on when he was washing it? I really don't know where the plate went Mr. Officer." The guy even got down on his knees to look for the plate and said "there is'nt even a bracket to hold the plate on!". All the while the plate is there, but it just happens to be in the retracted mode. Lynn of course, is quite aware of how the plate works and where it is, she is just using the good ol' Canajun genes. At the end of this "investigation" the cop told her she better have the car over to the police station Saturday with the plate attached or she gets a $105.00 fine! Sooooooo, I gotta come up with a way to mount the plate, now that I don't know where the heck the old mount is. Plus, I have another problem.....I sort of shaped the plate a little to fit the opening better. I wonder what kind of fine you get for "plate butchering"? I'll of course publish the outcome here.....stay tuned! Peter --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Peter Balfour A.K.A. Prez Pete Trillium Miata Club Inc.
