Driving back from Las Vegas last weekend, I spied a death black 1993 Mustang Cobra heading west on the 10 just east of Sierra Madre, California. The driver was driving assertively, holding his front bumper exactly 3 inches from the tail of the '94/'95 Mustang GT convertible in front of him. He was moving at about 85 miles per hour and appeared to be shooting for much greater speeds. The car was dusty and had mud sprays on the panel behind each wheel well. If normal Mustangs look aggressive, black Cobras look mean. This one certainly looked mean. And predatory. I could hear its engine and assume that the driver had kept the car in 4th while looking for the opportunity to pass. It sounded impatient. The black, combined with the dirt and engine pitch, gave the car a definite angry edge. It was looking for some simp to push into a back alley and slug. A death black Cobra is not a subtle car. I moved the Miata a lane to the right, allowing the Cobra to accelerate around the convertible GT. It wasted no time, instantly lunged at the opening, and thundered by me fast enough for the air pressure to push me noticably to the right. An impressive display of brutish horsepower. The driver waived, thanking me. The experience impressed me enough to write to the list. Didn't someone out there once dream of putting Centerlines on her Miata? Whoever it was: did you do it?
