Mike,

Since the Splitfires have a larger and non-ridged insulator, this is the
first thing I would suspect for frequent and early plug wire failure.
Perhaps the plug wire boots are getting stretched out and, thus, allowing a
short down the outside of the plug (the Splitfire's lack of ridges on the
insulator could certainly help contribute to this).  At least...that is
what I would look at as the possible culprit.
