Hi all, the clunk is gone. As I have chosen a very unscientific approach to the problem (check everything), I cannot say for sure what the source of the problem was, but I have a guess. I worked a lot on the Miata last weekend (oil, filter, tire rotation, installation of JR anti-sway bars) and checked just about every bolt in the front suspension/brake system. All were tight. Only thing different on the left front were wheel bolts that were considerably less tight - wheels (7x15) were dealer installed and retightened last time .... I moved the disk and heard that familiar clunk, then I was pretty sure this was the source of the problem - the wheel and disk were moving relative to the hub under braking - clunk. Once they were set, no more clunks until going backwards and braking for the next time - clunk. Thanks for the responses to Dan Scolnick Mackyboy Birdmeister Peter Balfour You all mentioned things I did/checked on the weekend (read your responses at work this morning). As I said, I cannot be absolutely sure about the source, but I think Peter Balfour (disk moving) was closest at the real problem - even though I do feel better having checked everything. Peter is your clunk gone? Werner Red 91A, Marburg, Germany
