From: Gary Fischman Subject: Z3.net! Its a done deal! Date: Mon, 1 Apr 1996 07:56:41 -0500
As many of you know, I've been pretty frustrated over the past few months with Miata.net. Between the lack of support from Mazda and MCA, problems getting sponsors, the incredible amount of work, and the lack of appreciation from this mailing list, I've considered shutting it down. Last month, while test driving the BMW Z3, I began negotiating a deal that I quite frankly, couldn't refuse. The day I went in to the local BMW dealer, the VP of North American public relations happened to be touring the dealerships in New Jersey. I told them about Miata.net and all of the things I had done to help promote the Miata. About a week later, he contacted me and offerred to sell me a brand new Z3 for next to nothing if, in return, I would do for the Z3 what I did for Miata.net. Essentially all I had to pay for was the sales tax and registration fees. Z3.net was born. They realize it'll take some time to get off the ground, and it'll take a few weeks before I get the official z3.net domain, but for now, you can see the beginnings of z3.net on what used to be the miata.net web page at http://www.miata.net/. I think its great to be working with a corporation that is willing to support such an effort. Along with z3.net, BMW also agreed to let me start a national club for Z3 owners with their blessing. You can also find info about the new BMW Owner's Group of the US at the same web address. This will, of course, be my final post to this listserv. Thanks for all of the good times. ...Gary
