From: Rob Meldrum Subject: Advice Needed! Date: Thu, 2 May 1996 19:30:49 -0400
I just picked up the Lobster at the Body Shop (my wife backed into her, mashing the passenger-side fender...). She looks great, and I was pretty excited to get her back. The nice woman at the shop bragged about the clear-coat job they did on the replacement parts. "But, but, but," I sputtered, "Red Miatae don't have clearcoats." She smiled at my stupidity, took a little piece of super-fine sandpaper, and took a light scrape on the inside of the old wheel well to prove me wrong. Paint came off. "Oops," she said. "You're right." The long and short of it is that the fender is clear-coated, and the door is at least partly so, since there was work to do there, also. So, the question is: Do I make an issue of this? Should I demand fresh parts without clearcoat? Have them buff and clearcoat the rest of the Lobster? Inquiring minds want to know. I defer to the greater knowledge of the Miata.net. Please respond soon, as I'm taking the car back to get the wheel cleaned up (they forgot, and I didn't notice until I got home). Robster and The Lobster ('94 Red) Cincinnati, Ohio P.S. They've been really nice people, and the fix is guaranteeed for a year. However, I'm planning on keeping the car as close to forever as possible.
