In the Club Challenge at the Harrisburg Pro SOLO (Pro SOLO courses typically
start out with a long drag-race straight start) last year I had the humbling
and infuriating experience of watching (and *hearing*) an un-muffled Neon
just pull away after I cut a damned near perfect light at the start and was
just plain making the best acceleration possible.  That damn flatulent roar
was so loud and obnoxious that I couldn't even hear my own car either.  As I
recall I hit the rev limiter the first run because I didn't hear the RPMs
approaching the redline.

They may look dumb, but they've got the legs on at least a 1st gen Miata -
at least in a straight line.  Don't ruin your day by stop-light dragging one
unless you've installed a turbo or SC... :-)
