Mark,
When I installed my Boston 6-1/2"s I put a ring of 1/2"x1/2" adhesive-backed
soft foam tape both under and around the speakers to prevent any air from 
leaking around the speaker. It also helps keep the panel away from the cone 
seals. You might give this a try.

Hi. I recently installed some really nice Pioneer 6 1/2 inch
speakers in my 1990 Miata. The only problem is that sometimes
the speakers hit up against the Mazda sppeaker grill cover.
Any suggestions?
