Bill,
  You have more than a minor complaint against the dealer.  If you can 
verify that the car was sold and registered by the DMV I would head for 
the Consumer Protection Agency of either your county or state.  Selling a 
used car as new is illegal.  For all you know it could be a salvaged 
vehicle.  The attitude of the dealer leads to suspicion...the anger 
sounds like they were mad for being found out.  I know of another case 
where the dealer sold a used car as new.  The owner filed suit and won.
