From: Tom Manson Subject: Rear Window "Browning" Date: Thu, 2 May 1996 08:32:13 -0400
Miateers, I realized something this morning on the way to work. Several of you have been commenting on the brown discoloration of the rear window as it becomes wavy (physically, i.e., it is forming a "washboard" effect horizontally). I tried to Mequiars 10/17 away the browning on the outside of the window and I had no luck. Thsi morning I realized that the browning is on the inside and on the bottoms of the window "waves," specifically where it contacts the shelf carpetting. Since the browning has just recently increased dramatically this spring, I think it is related to the pollen that invariably must be accumulating on the shelf carpet. If it isn't the pollen, then it is carpet dye (I doubt that actually since the car is 3 years old and has never done it so seriously before). Whichever the cause, this is a good rationale to use a window protector. I'll bet those of you that use one have never seen this browning effect. Given this new info, if anyone has a good idea how to clean it, let me know.
