Ok, I learned yet another new word here - die.

[] There is about another 0.5 inches that could be threaded before the shaft
[] widens.  It may then involve cutting off the top 0.5 inches of the shaft,
[] but you would still be left with about an inch of thread.

Sounds like a good idea. I plan on getting a short throw shifter sooner or later,
so if I screw this one up, I guess it'll be sooner. Wow, how about a 'lowered'
short shifter. That would really feel like a rocker switch.
