From: "Dennis J. HeRR" Subject: wheel spacer Date: Mon, 3 Jun 1996 07:02:35 -0400
G'day! Finally I found a shop who produces the wheel spacer - I think they originally did the jobs for the Japanese firm, Battel Club, but lately distribute it themselves in Sydney area under agreement with them. Anyway, the spacer I got is 25mm thickness and adonised in red. You simply remove the tyre and put the spacer on the wheel hub. Tighten the four stock bolts and then put the wheel on the spacer's four bolts. It effectively decreases the wheel offset from 45mm to 20mm. I know now you're screaming that MX-5 is not designed for such low offset. Well, I saw MX-5 - ok, it was Eunos Roadster - with such offset and they did pretty impressive on the track. On the street I never push the car to the same limit as I would do on the track - if any of you do the you're either brain dead or simply crazy. :) I'll post after I run the car on the track to see whether the wheel spacer drastically alters the car's handling. BTW I think 195/55-14 tyre is about same outer running diameter as 185/60-14. Am I right? Dennis (^_^; 89 RX-7 - Red, too many tickets to keep it. 92 MX-5 - Red, too much fun to worry about tickets.
