From: P729LWS@aol.com Subject: Low oil pressure..... Date: Tue, 2 Jul 1996 09:52:57 -0400
Hello everyone: This may not be the best time to post a question here on the net, since many people are going to the Miata 96 event, but here's the question anyways. I recently been experiencing very low oil pressure at a warm idle. (10-12PSI with a manual guage). I brought my car in to the local dealer and had them check the problem. The only thing they could come up with is the the low oil pressure could be caused by worn engine bearings. I'm not mechanic, but wouldn't worn bearing make a distinct noise?? My engine idles smoothly with no "unusual" sounds coming from it. This past Feb, I had an engine shop(not a Mazda dealer) install a new crankshaft since the dealer installed the key onto it incorrectly(during a timing belt change) and thus "ate" away at the keyway. Since the whole engine had to be taken out for this job to be done, I had them go through the whole engine. They checked the valves, pistons, etc. According to the reciept that I recieved, the rod bearings, and main bearings where replaced.(with all Mazda parts, as requested). The dealer said that the oil pump is working since the electronic guage on the dashboard is working. My question is: Can an oil pump go gradually?? Also changed with the bearings was the oil pump. I was reading the technical manual and came across the oil jet. I was wondering if this can get clogged and disrupt the oil pressure inside the engine? If anyone has ever experienced this problem, or know of any other causes of low oil pressure, please email me. I will be bringing my car back to the engine place to have them take a look at it. The only problem is that they cannot get me in till July 9th. Guess I'll be sitting home in my clean and waxed, but not running-perfectly 90 Miata. NOTE: Oil is full and running with 10/30 Quaker.
