From: "Paul A. Troy" Subject: Rear-ended by a semi!!!! Date: Tue, 2 Jul 1996 10:14:30 -0400
`Morning All, This incident happened to me last evening during Chicago's rush hour traffic. As the subject says, I was rear-ended by a semi! In fact, he tapped me 4 times!!! Granted, traffic was nudging along at a lofty 5 mph, but I still got hit. He had apparently "lost" me because he couldn't see over his hood. He thought he had a large cushion in front of hime when in fact, I was that cushion! After the second tap, a guy in another lane rolled down his window and yelled "He can't see you!!!"The strange twist to this tale was that he had just entered the (center) lane from the right side. The way this plays in my head, he must have seen me in order to make the lane change behind me. When I tried to get him to pull over, he kept on going - totally engulfed in his little world. At lunchtime, I'll be down at the State Police office filling out a traffic report for hit-and-run. Although this appears to be a case of "wrong place, wrong time", I feel the paperwork should still be filled out, just in case. (Insurance Co) Damage? Surprisingly, a couple of small scratches and 3 tiny dimples, all in the bumper. Touch up paint should take care of the scratches but the dimples are a different matter. I was able to keep my composure long enough to get the guys vehicle number and the "Am-I-driving-poorly?" 800 number. I called that one in immediately but hesitated on the police report. After a night of reflection, I'm gonna report the matter. Me, personally? Well, as I said to my girlfriend (whom I expected to give me the riot act about an unsafe car), "I'm shaken, not stirred." Translation: I'm fine though a bit worn around the edges. Please beware of them truckers. Innocent or not, often times they can't see under their own nose. Safe trails, ++ Paul -- Paul A.
