Don't know about other states but in Florida the insurance company can't apply the deductible to windshield replacement--it's considered necessary to safety to have it replaced if it's broken. Now, as far as the "brick" solution. I agree completely. We've already had the discussion about insurance companies (legal theft in MHO). When a rock chipped my Miata windshield the insurance company tried to "sham" me with that crack/chip repair stuff. Certainly it was their preference--it's cheap! I've seen it and it's not acceptable to me. Therefore, rather than argue the point with these thieves, I "willed it--you know what I mean :-)" and the chip turned into a crack. Actually, it turned into several cracks running out from the chip. Therefore, there was no chance for them to insist upon that half a** crack repair stuff! And I demanded an exact orignal (Mazda) windshield....and got it. Morale here is: Deal with insurance companies the way they deal with you or you're going to be paying top dollar premiums for nothing--certainly not what they imply in their contracts! Gus 90 MBLUE
