One of the newest members of the Underground Miata Network has been an MCA member from the start - his member number is 300-something, I think. He has a 1990 with about 140,000 km - and quick, everyone, what's the first thing you want to know? No, he hadn't broken his crank. In fact, he had no idea it may be a problem. The first time I met up with a Miata cllub was after I had owned my car for over a year. I was amazed at how much more I knew about Miatas than any of the long-time MCA members in attendance. At our club meetings, I'm known as "the man who can get things". The MCA members want to know about the accessories that they see advertised, so they ask someone who's heard how they work, and can get them easily. Within a week of deciding that air horns would be fun, we had a box of 5 from across the continent. The first time I read a copy of MCA mag, I turned to the back page and read a joke that had circulated around the mailing list close to a year earlier. I also was able to identify the Le Mans turbo car pictured and explain its history to clueless members - there was no information in the story. When readers wanted to share the latest "Tech Tips" with me, I had heard them all much earlier - and I could get further clarification from the authors. This weekend, I'm going to meet many of my friends that I have met through the Miata.net (Petra!!) I've been offered a Miata for a tour in Europe. If I drive anywhere in North America, I know I can find friends. Through my virtual club, I've bought used accessories, sold products of my own design, given and recieved advice from across the world, saved hundreds of dollars, and have expert answers to my specific questions at my fingertips. My local club is not an MCA chapter, and all this means is that we don't have to fill out any forms. So, why am I not a member of MCA? Sorry, Norm. Why should I be? This is obviously a sore point with many people - when's the last time Voodoo Bob posted to the list? Keith Tanner and Baby, who's going to be the most online Miata in the world this weekend. _____________________ Page de Home: www.miata.net/keith Underground Miata Network: http://www.ottawa.net/~tanner/umn _____________________
