I just bought a new '96 as well, and I'm pretty sure the promotional booklet
(which, of course, I am unable to put my hands on right now, having only
gotten the car on Saturday- no reason not to have lost it) said that all the
new Mazda's used R-134A, which is the new stuff.  I don't think new cars have
used R-12 for a couple of years now.
