From: rob@ebersol.com (Rob Ebersol) Subject: Wandering In Hi-speed righties Date: Fri, 2 Aug 1996 09:40:56 -0400
Dear Gearheads, My 91b has started a nastie handling habit of wandering in hi-speed right hand sweepers. It feels as though the left front tries to toe out through the turn in a rhythmic pattern, thus the feeling of wandering. It is not a violent action, but very subtle. Unfortunately, it causes the car to "track out" prematurely. Here's what I've checked, changed, fixed, etc.: Wheel and tire swap (twice), checked bushings everywhere, tightened cradle, replace shocks, fresh alignment, check ball joints in upper arm and tie rods, checked rack, checked wheel bearings, checked tolerance in steering wheel and column (ujoint) to rack. I think that's it. As you can see this has becoming very time consuming. The problem is not noticeable under normal driving conditions but only under speed where the left front "loads up." The only thing that I have found that is unusual is the steering rack is not centered. It takes between an 1/8th and 1/4 turn more to reach full lock to the right as compared to the left, so I might center the rack next. Could this be it? Any insight, help or comments is greatly appreciated. thanks, Rob Ebersol __________________________________________ rob@ebersol.com Decatur, GA 90A silver/red 91b white/black SSC
