From: "John D. Emerson" Subject: Wish List for 1998 Miata Date: Fri, 2 Aug 1996 11:10:59 -0400
I'll confine my list to the base model Miata. It would be easy to produce a list that would push the Miata into Z3 territory (rotary? automatic pop-up roll bars?) Wish list for 1998 base Miata Roadster: 1. Eliminate pop-up headlights with their doors, motors, and circuitry. Put good high-intensity lights where current parking lights are. 2. Relocate spare tire under the trunk. 3. Modest redesign of mouth -- larger like M Speedster, but with smaller light pods than M Speedster. 4. Fresh style for interior, but keep simple, clean, & functional. 5. M Coupe doors (like RX-7) -- for looks and to stiffen body a bit more. 6. Restore rear chassis brace to base model. 7. Real guage for oil pressure. 8. Tilt steering column. 9. Make Torsen L.S. an option on base model, and standard on all others. 10. Use body-color paint instead of black on rocker panels. 11. Make the gorgeous 96 M Edition alloy wheels an option for base model. 12. Keep power steering a separate option for base model. 13. Sticker for base model under $19,000. Price base model plus power steering, alloy wheels, and floor mats at under $20,000. 14. Return to A and B packages instead of the combined P package. How about suggestions for the 1998 R package that could keep its price at $1500 over base? John Emerson, 92 Sunburst Yellow A Middlebury, Vermont
