My brother and I have been toying with the idea of a hidden switch that
momentarily (while it's pressed) turns the brake lights off (or keeps them
dim).

Just a button in line with the brake pedal switch so that if you press the
pedal while the button is pressed, the state of the lights remains the
same. (off in day, low at night, rather than coming on or brighter)

Some ideas include mounting it under the boot cover, or as a footswitch
(left side).
