Tom Matano displayed his little red Italian automobile at the Mazda Research and Design Center in Irvine at the Miata's 5th birthday party. His rare De Tomaso Vallelunga represents one of the first production vehicles for their marque. The ancestor to the Pantera, the Vallelunga a thousand pounds less than a Miata, the modern-day equivalent. Less than sixty were built of which most were bodied with fiberglass, three with aluminum and five race versions with aluminum bodies. Keep in mind that the Concourse Italiano in August of 1997 in Carmel Valley at Quail Lodge shall feature the DeTomaso as the marque vehicle, and Tom Matano hopes to be there with his rare Vallelunga on display. That event is always held on the Friday preceeding the Laguna Seca Historical Races and Pebble Beach Concourse D'Elegance. Send me some 'e' mail to discuss that beautiful Vallelunga that may have greatly inspired the Miata.
