Steve, you've got a classic case of too many ground points with a feedback loop having developed. Take your car to a local car audio shop and have a ground loop isolator installed at the amp. This usually does the trick. I had it in my Protege GT with the stereo that's in my Miata now...got lucky this time and no noise.
