From: John Snyder Subject: Cold Air Intake Tidbit... (suggested reading) -Reply Date: Tue, 1 Oct 1996 18:25:27 -0500
Maybe they figured powdered aluminum would--like powdered magnesium--improve combustion.... John Snyder and Rotus (who's glad for the information) 92 Yellow A+ Team NamVet jsnyder@trmx3.dot.ca.gov Team Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you! >>> Ando Sonenblick 10/01/96 02:40pm >>> I got my Jackson Racing Cold Air Intake yesterday. Since I needed to work late, I didnt have enough sunlight to install it. So, like any good enthusiast, I decided to devour the instructions and look over all the components... And I discovered something that I'd like to pass on to you all: when first looking at the aluminum elbow, I felt the inside to see how smooth it was and when I pulled my fingers out, they were covered in filth!!!! Looked like minute aluminum shavings (no doubt from their machining)... Remember, this elbow, once it is on the car, is already past the air filter so these aluminum shavings won't be filtered out!!! My new little engine would be given a nice diet of aluminum shavings if I were to have installed this right out of the box!!! So a word of warning to the wise: clean your CAI (whether it is a Jackson Racing unit or one of the others!) before installing it! I'd suggest a good wipe down with a damp rag....
