Congratulations, John, on getting your Miata.  You will enjoy it!

As for a window protector, Try a large soft bath towel.  Not only can it be

used for protecting the rear window, but it can also be used to mop up

water, if you left the top down and got caught by a rain shower, put over

the seat on a hot day to protect your back and bottom from accumulated sun

rays.  It is also useful if you are out with someone and the urge strikes

and you don't have a back seat and you're not a contortionist and........
