I'd just like to point out to who-ever said they wouldn't by a first model year car again, and sighted the '90 crank problem as a prime example, that the motor in the miata, including the crank, are much older than the miata. Mazda should have noticed and rectified the problem much earlier in the life of the 323's that also apparently exhibit this problem. My point is, that the fact that the crank was fixed between the first and second year Miatas seems purely coincedental to me. I do agree however, often small problems are rectified after the first year of production on a new model, I just don't think this is the case here...
