So, any theories about what would make this kind of noise near the

timing belt?  I've never had all this stuff open in front of me, so I'm

not sure of all the pieces surrounding it - are there bearings in there?



Pretty hard without hearing it but if your ear has the problem in the right area, I'd guess a bearing in the belt tensioned.
