From: Will Errington Subject: Servicing my Car Date: Sat, 2 Nov 1996 11:43:55 -0500
Dear all, The net wisdom is rather, dare I say, shaky on the subject of servicing intervals. For me, a period of 6-8000 miles sounded reasonable, not to mention convenient, so I took old "Betsy" to my local garage. I say I, I actually mean S.O. She needed an estimate to repair some damage done to the mudflaps (car's, not S.O's) due to careless (our Miata was parked) yet neighbourly (left name and address for insurance stuff) contact with some bloke. Poor S.O has a history of being patronised by the staff at the garage, and they easily lived up to their reputation. Ahem. "I'd like an estimate and a service please (very polite, my lass is)". "I'm sorry madam (better than Dear, but only just), we've just changed our intervals from 6 to 9 000 miles." And they refused to service the damn thing! This alteration in service intervals seems awfully arbitrary to me....hmmm. What's the story out there? Finally (wait for it); in the first post the next day we received a reminder from Mazda UK telling us that our first service was due. Ho hum. Sounds like the left arm doesn't know what the right arm is doing. Arses and elbows also spring to mind. The upshot of this; service is booked for next month when 7 400 (ish) will be on the clock. Carry on, Will \014 ==============================================================================
