To the all knowing collective: I recently commented on test driving Miatae, and received LOTS of feedback on the relative merits of 1990 vs 1996 cars. Thank you all. Today I drove a 92 and a 94, both Canadian base models. The 92 was my preference this time, except that it made a strange whining noise. This noise was not comming from the engine, although it was RPM dependent. That is, in each gear, as you accelerate, the whine changes in pitch as you run up the RPM's. The sound is most like the sound you get when accelerating in reverse... a "square cut gear" kind of whine. The whine also only occurs during acceleration.. if you back of the throttle, it immediately stops. I haven't heard this on any other Miata i have driven. Other than that, the car is a dream. What is this noise? Is it serious? BTW, i made an offer on the car, but so far the dealer is refusing to budge. Vic Team iwannamiata _________________________________________ | Victor A.
