It has not been REAL HOT since I purchased my '96, but I have had occasion to run the air conditioner. A couple of questions. Last weekend I was running it and it seemed to not be putting out real cold air. The ambient air temp was probably around 70 degrees, so it should not have been to hard for the a/c to blow cold. I did discover one cause, when the water started dripping in the passenger footwell. It was condensation from the "heater box" due to (I guess) a clogged drain. I located the rubber hose and "manipulated" it until I saw water dripping under the car. Does anyone have a better way to un-clog this ? Can you easily detach it from the heater box so it can be blown out ? On some cars I have owned in the past, it was very easy to disconnect the hose at the box and clean it out. I noticed after a top-down drive the other night that I have another a/c problem. I was running the heat (it was around 50 degrees) and when I parked the car for the night, I moved the temp control back to "cold" as I always do. I left the fan on. I noticed that the air blowing out of the vents was NOT even close to outside air temp. The lever was on "fresh", but I did try "recirculated" and it did not change. It appears that the "blend door" is not opening / closing all the way. So even with the temp lever in full cold (a/c off) it was still blowing warmed air through the vents. It would seem than this summer this would reduce the effectiveness of the a/c. I seem to remember reading something on the list or in the archives about this being a problem ? Is this common ? Seems like someone re-adjusted theirs to make sure the temp system allowed no warmed air in when the control was at full cold. I would assume this would be at the expense of getting maximum heat out during the colder months. Around here, this is the ideal time to test if your system is warming the fresh air. If so, I would guess you will be complaining about the a/c this summer.
