Subject: Luggage Rack - On Hardtop?

I know the factory manual warns about driving recklessly with the hardtop.

But is the hardtop strong enough for me to mount a removable rack like 

Yakima rack for my bike and ski?  I know the fiberglass camper top on my 

truck is rated to take 500 pounds.  Is there any other way to carry these 

things in a Miata?  I know I can install a receiver hitch but I don't like 

the look of the receiver and I think a trunk-mounted rack is not secure 

enough and it mught damage the trunk lid and the paint.  Any other 

suggestions?
