Sway bars and subframe braces are different things. Sway bars attach to the moving parts of the suspension and help transfer the load - cutting down the lean of the car in cornering. They may have a small effect in stiffening the chassis, but that's not their purpose. If you're watching a car with stock sway bars and aftermarket (bigger) ones on an autox course, the difference is very obvious. Subframe braces and shock tower braces attach to non-moving parts, and tie them together more strongly. This cuts down on how much they can move relative to each other, and will stiffen your car's body, getting rid of the shudder you may feel over bumps. Cornering feel is slightly improved, but you need a pretty educated butt for some of the changes. Someone watching the car will not be able to tell if you have braces installed unless you flip the car and they can see them bolted on underneath :) You'll put a bigger grin on your face with the sway bars, but if you find your car flexes too much, the braces will help.
