The Dynojet dynos which are quickly becoming the norm, have no brakes. Instead, they measure how fast the rear wheels can accelerate a given mass (the roller). Strong points: very repeatable, consistent between different examples of the same manufacturer, relatively easy on the vehicle (no holding the engine under load at stepped rpm), nice computerized printouts. Not so strong if you have a problem you're trying to track down at a particular rpm, as you can't load the engine and hold it there. The nicest thing about the Dynojets (beside their relative affordability) is the consistency between units and ease of use. Chances are better that you are comparing apples to apples when using the same brand and design of dyno. Also, without a brake it is easier to make them consistent, as it's tough to introduce variables when you're just spinning a weight.
