While I was at my local garage to have a new reverse switch mounted, 

the mechanic examined the underside of the car.

He showed me little specs of that brown demon ,RUST, that were beginning 

to show.

Nothing major but he told me they do need taking care off before they 

become major rust spots. He also told me my car never was treated 

with any rustproofing material which surprised him, not even a coat 

of tar. I bought the car used when it was 9 months old.

He said my car needed to be steamcleaned, tarred and have a coat of 

rustproofing put on on the underside. I do trust this guy as he's always been fair.

I am however surprised that a 5 year old Miata is beginning to show 

little rust spots.Only on the underside of the car, but then again 

the car always is garaged and is well taken care off.

I do have to ad that the air in my town is very salty because of the 

North Sea which is a breeze away.

Has anyone else encountered rust spots (even tiny ones)

Is it normal that Miatas are not treated against this ?

He quoted me 200 dollars for the treatment which will take two days. 

Fair ?
