From: (none) Subject: i promised merv... Date: (none)
Classification: Prologue: Epilogue: bt so i promised Mad Merv to tell you all about my stereo install. if he shared some info with me, so here it is - late, but hey... i pulled the stereo out of the protege (see above) to put in the miata. i took the trunk apart once just to look at things. the second time, i grabbed a fine Yamaha PWC battery lead as a power lead, and ran it to the other side if the trunk, where the sony 45*4 amp sits. it took all day to run four wire leads (2, bi-di) from the factory head to the jack well in the trunk. but you'd never know they're there. and it's a lease, for now, so i used male/female connectors just like i did in the protege... to make it easy to strip out. one day to pull the whole installation out. longer by a bit to put in. esp in a smaller car! i want the rear deck 6.5"s (enjoy, jeannie) in the panel at the front of the famous tunnels, but they aren't there yet. the 5.25" are in the doors, aided by yamaha gasket seals for PWC on the door panel, 3 strategically drilled holes in the MB Quart mids, and ziptie them boogers down. not just any zipties, but gen-u-wine IBM mainframe pack-em-into-boxes orange zipties - way cool, und gut! i found that the door panels are 2-piece, so i snuck the wires for the tweeter through the slot between, and velcro monuted them on the doors as close to the dash as i thought prudent. The MB Quart splitters, which is part of why you are getting these seperates, no? have three different outputs for 0 -3 and -x Db on the tweeters (can't see 'em now, ya unnerstand...) which i have at 0, seems too bright top up, and fine top down. imaging is o.k. i'm not audiophile enough, as amply demonstrated here lately, still...i like the 80W 10" bazooka in the trunk. actually have had to turn the gain down now that the top is up most of the time - darn it! i do have the cd, and it works, and makes it hard to play tapes, and the stock head unit, and you know what? it's a lease. 3 yrs, and i'm outta here. or not. in three years, i can buy a one owner miata at a decent price with a known history, nice owner, etc. shaded in their favor, of course, i have no time to fight. and for three years, i financed THAT balance at mazda factory 3.9% (or thereabouts) then, finance the rest at used car rate at the credit union. cheaper that way, overall... or, getaa newaa miattaaaa... team hakuna team mid-life crises team age&treachery team ibm team os2 (really? a crusty fossil!)(i'm over it) team .........late
