From: (none) Subject: from the INTERAUTO 'BOSCH Electrical Systems for Automobiles Date: (none)
Classification: Prologue: Epilogue: bt for you trivia fans, from my Opel days, cpyrt 1972 Headlamp Adjustment (professor clears throat :-) (pg 38, btw, if you're reading along...) describes a german 'officially suggested test screen' (DIN?) for headlamp adjustment at a distance of 10 metres. an horizontal line is scribed 180 cm using 10 cm spacing for 5 cm dashes (germans, nein?) at the center (90cm) go up 10cm and scribe a cross 5cm each arm (oh, btw, each line is def'd at 1cm :-) VBG from the center of the horizontal which you have already had to determine scribe a line (blank the first 30 cm) 15 degrees from the horizontal above the horizontal on the right side of center for 55 cm (blank the first 30, as you recall, leaves 25 cm of 1 cm wide line. unless you live in the extended kingdom or elsewhere where it is important for the dexter side to face oncoming traffic...then the line ascends to the left of the center you need two copies of this industrial art, set 10 metres from your headlamps (car and all...) on a level surface. directly in front of your miata (content:-), perpendicular to the long axis of your car, etc... i forgot, it is suggested that you label the cross "headlamp centre" (british publisher) 5 cm above it finally, how to adjust your hellas: "The centre of the headlamp beam (they mean the high beam, Yanks) should coincide as closely as possible with the marking 'headlamp centre'. (didja measure that?-ed.) The decisive factor, here, however is the adjustment of the dipped beam and the headlamp must be subsequently set higher or lower to achieve the correct dipped beam setting. .. the bright/dark border should lie to the left or the right (british again -ed.) or the marking 'headlamp centre' and 10 cm below the level of the headlamp centre line. On headlamps with European asymmetrical dipped beams (Hella, Cibie, etc - ed.) the bright/dark border may rise at an angle of degrees to the right or left of the marking 'headlamp centre'."
