I too had a similar experience with the rock (gravel?) guard material that was redone on my lower front fender. The stuff the shop used is a little bit smoother than the Mazda OEM. After pressuring them they said they used Ford stuff. I didn't force the issue for having it redone with OEM material because their job had a lot of other problems (mostly ended up fixed) and my experience is that the more a paint shop does the worse the results. The Ford stuff they used is white and they told me the Mazda is black, so due to the base color somewhat bleeding through the color shade of the result didn't match too well -- they repainted to better match. Mazda parts should have the OEM stuff. I noticed it helped quite a bit to write out the defects and give it to the shop and then mail a copy to the insurance company. Allstate took a real strong interest in the problems I had and when they visted the shop the shop really got interested in doing the job right. Good luck. >>Greg Bassett Thu, 2 Jan 1997 11:39:33 wrote: Tues. evening I went to pick up the car. Suprise, it wasn't even close... The biggest problem was the texture material that they attempted to use on the bottom of the replaced fender in no way, shape or form resembled the original. The crap they put on the car looked like handfuls of sand, gravel and sticks thrown up against some wet glue, then painted over. I explained that THAT was TOTALLY unacceptable, that they should be able to find the original stuff, or something a LOT closer to it. So, the $64K question is: does the OEM texture material exist, and where can it be found?
