I have a '96, w/ the brace. At first I had trouble raising the top, but it was because I was pulling up at an angle- kind of trying to pull it foreward as I raised it. The key seems to be pull straight UP first, then start to go foreward. After you do it a few times, you start to build the proper muscles, too. They don't seem to get much use in normal everyday life. Pat
