From: (none) Subject: Automatic/Standard engine differences Date: (none)
I was browsing thru the Miata Brochure, and noticed that the Automatic engine is rated at 105 Horsepower. After looking further I noticed that the reason for this was apparently a lower compression ratio (9.0 vs 9.4) and a lower timing advance (8 vs 10).. Question: How does mazda achieve the lower compression ratio? Headgasket, different cylinder head? Also, are there any differences in engine block design for the Automatic. Ie. Does the block have the provisions to change to a standard tranny backed engine? I'm still trying to find a way to cheaply convert my 93 Auto to a stick > - Eric 93 Black/Tan C Package
