From: (none) Subject: Moss trunk lid lift kit problem Date: (none)
Hi all, I just installed one of my Christmas presents, a trunk lid lift from Moss Motors. One problem: the lid no longer opens all the way! The gas strut simply is not long enough to allow it open fully. I am only talking about an inch short of having the hinge arms hit their "bumber-stops", but that translates to 3-4 inches at the trunk lip, or 10-15 degrees of arc. It really makes the trunk seem smaller and less accessible. I installed it exactly according to the instructions, and I don't think drilling a hole further back on the hinge arm is possible (to push it higher), since the strut is already fully compressed when closed (I think). Judging from the picture of Wiz's kit the mounting parts are the same as the Moss kit, so I figured these kits are all the same. Maybe the struts are different though. I still like it, but if other kits don't have this problem I would recommend them over this one. I already had a remote trunk release solenoid, and I still haven't mounted my other present (a lip spoiler), but I think the strut will go from "handy" to "must-have" once I do. Do any of you with gas lifts have this problem, and what kit do you have? Thanks for your comments, Ben Lawrence
