I put a K&N filter (filter only-not a complete breathing kit) in Jade

yesterday; got it at my local Ramchargers for about $35.  Should be the

same as a 96's, if not all Miata's, as the enclosed card said it fit

Escort GTs with the Mazda 1.8, as well as 1.6 Miatas.  It seemed to make

a noticeable differance, less flat spots in the torque curve and a

slightly louder exhaust.  I noticed similar results when I had one in my

previous car, a '95 Mustang GT.  Overall, an outstanding return on a

measly $35.  I have no idea what the corresponding horsepower increase

would be, but on the Mustang K&N claimed around 10hp, but who knows.
